Where to Eat and Stay in Greenport, NY

img_0873I don’t know what it is about the off season of summer that gets me super excited.  Considering I am a summer junkie and would die for summer, I do enjoy the slight transition into “pre” fall.  It is not extremely hot and dressing can become confusing.  Do I need a jacket? Will I get cold? Its humid now, but will it be in two hours kind of thing. I live for it.

Not much can drag me out to Long Island, besides a few friends and family. Although I will never argue that Long Island does have a lot to offer.  For me- Long Island- it is a love hate relationship, but mostly hate until you bring me to the coast or the fork.

Two of my friends and I planned a quick get together to catch up. We stayed the night at a quaint “motel”.  The Soundview Inn lived up to every expectation and above. The staff was attentive and super helpful with recommendations. The rooms were very clean, minimalistic, and nautical all at the same time.

As soon as we arrived we rented bikes and drove through the North Fork for lunch. Our first choice and a recommendation was the The Fish Market, but the kitchen is closed on Tuesdays. Because of the odd day we chose to go, some establishments were not open. We traveled down the road instead to Waypoint Restaurant for some lobster rolls.

Anytime I am remotely close to water, I get seafood almost the entire time. Being near the water puts me in a mood. Waypoint Restaurant was the perfect place to begin our adventure. The lobster rolls did not disappoint.  The amount given was fulfilling and generous.

After we satisfied our appetites we headed about four miles away to Kontokosta Winery.

I actually do not recommend riding all over the place unless it’s a shorter distance.  After we ate we all were not in the mood to bike. Thankfully The Soundview Inn was only a 10 minute bike ride from the winery! I am not lazy at all when it comes to being active, but beach cruisers are not what you want to ride when trying to make it up hills.

Kontokosta Winery is on the sound and was very unexpected. A recommendation by my friend, with little detail, she strongly suggested Kontokosta.  Wine is by the glass.  Bottle purchase is for take away only.img_08561

After we relaxed and wined by the water we made our way back down the road to the Soundview Inn to check in.  The sun was starting to set and the Soundview Inn offers a beautiful view right from outside your room. We purchased a bottle of wine from Kontokosta and cracked it open to watch the day set.

Of course we had to make it a point to stop into The Halyard. We started off with a cocktail and two dishes. Cocktail list was impressive and delicious. For Food, seafood again! Both were also amazing.  I suggest whether or not you stay at the Soundview Inn, you make your way into the Halyard, especially if you would love to watch a beautiful sunset with a drink in your hand.

Later in the night we made our way to Brix & Rye.  Brix & Rye is a Cocktail, Wine, and Pizza bar. We ordered the clam pie and I am still dreaming about it. Brix & Rye has an intimate vibe down the stairs, but upstairs there is a shuffle board table.
